International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness against discrimination and take action to reduce the gender gap. Today we imagine a truly equitable world, free from biases and truly inclusive – and take the steps towards achieving that goal.

The theme for international women’s day this year is #EmbraceEquity so with that in mind, we asked our team which resources they find helpful as women working in digital marketing. From inspiring Instagram pages to a book that we think everyone should read, check them out below:

1.  Girls in Marketing

Built to be a safe space for women to learn, connect and grow, their goal is to reignite the spark and excitement for marketing in professional and aspiring marketers by providing a space for education, community, and development opportunities.

Hosting events, running training, and recently having run a three-day virtual internship where members attended an intensive course learning all things digital marketing strategy, social media, and content creation. Girls in Marketing is a fantastic community to join for freelancers, in house teams, and agencies alike with their networking events and ready-to-use toolkits and templates.

2. Women in Agencies

Women in Agencies is another community for women in marketing agencies where you can share knowledge and make new connections. All about peer support, Women in Agencies promotes the development of women’s careers within the agency world. This community is filled with like-minded women in industry all looking to bridge the gender gap in professional spaces and champion female-led business from the inside-out.

Women in Agencies believe that peer support is the best way to drive success, so they have created a space to share experiences, connections and even a bottle of wine while you learn from the community. From peer successes, to challenges and even failures, it’s all a learning opportunity to help you inform your decisions.

3. Women in Tech SEO

Women in Tech SEO is a free community of – you guessed it – women working in SEO. This is a worldwide community of – you guessed it – women working SEO where they can come together to discuss, share and learn from one another. With a library of resources, from events and podcasts hosted by them, to articles, newsletters and mentoring programs it’s a fantastic community to get involved with.

Focusing on shining a light on the inspiring women working in SEO by sharing their stories, strategies, achievements and general advice you can truly see their values of uplifting and helping women achieve their goals. Just check out their hubs where they highlight the careers successful women in The Founder’s Hub, and the expertise of women in The Speaker’s Hub.

4. Invisible Women by Caroline Criado-Perez

“Data is fundamental to the modern world. From economic development, to healthcare, to education and public policy, we rely on numbers to allocate resources and make crucial decisions. But because so much data fails to take into account gender, because it treats men as the default and women as atypical, bias and discrimination are baked into our systems. And women pay tremendous costs for this bias, in time, money, and often with their lives.”

A non-fiction and data led book that explores the biases that are inherent in our society. There are some truly shocking statistics to read, but the only way change will happen is if we can see the areas where change is needed. A must-read for any feminist that is likely to change the way you view the world.

5. Go-to Gal

2022 was the year of the podcasts, with everyone finally realising just how useful they can be. Sticking one on while driving into to work, or even while you’re making your way through a monthly report can be a great way of multi-tasking and learning new skills.

In Go-to Gal, Jaclyn Mellone hosts this podcast where she speaks to a range of guests tackling important topics such as building a personal brand, creating effective marketing strategies, and ensuring businesses are equitable and inclusive.

6. Market Your Genuis

In our next podcast recommendation, join speaker, author and marketing mentor, Nikki Nash, and her guests each week in this podcast as they share anecdotes, strategies and mini-training sessions with truly actionable takeaways – an essential listen to any woman in marketing.

And if you love the podcast or prefer reading to podcasts, Nikki Nash has also published a book by the same name.

7. Girls Night In newsletter

After a long week in the office, sometimes a cosy weekend is exactly what the doctor ordered – and this newsletter will help with just that. Every Friday morning you’ll get an email with everything from selfcare tips and recipes to book and article recommendations.

Last week focused on how to make soup out of (practically) anything, and recommended Anne Helen Petersen’s article The Tyranny of Faux Self-Care, reminding us that a bath bomb and face mask isn’t going to fix everything wrong with your life and it’s unrealistic to expect that.

There is a difference between equality and equity, and these resource can help to bridge that gap and empower women in marketing to make the most out of their careers. Make sure you #EmbraceEquity today.
